A fun colourful wedding with family and friends in Mexico

Wedding planner Guadalupe Alvarez and Valeria Velez of Penzi Weddings tells us about the couple’s big day which took place in November 2020:

Tell us about the proposal:

Jordan: “I proposed to Corey in May 2017 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. I had been carrying the ring for several months, and was waiting for the perfect opportunity to pop the question. Corey is from Nebraska, and we had been home with his family visiting for the week. We were also in town for his best friend’s wedding that weekend. There was so much love in the air, that I ended up proposing the day after the ceremony, and all our friends and family were there to celebrate that evening with us. It was perfect!”.

How did they choose the place to get married?

They fell in love with San Miguel when we were there for their friend’s wedding in August 2017. When they started to plan our own wedding, they couldn’t stop thinking about San Miguel. They knew they had to have Casa Hyder as the venue, because it was the largest venue that could accommodate. The gardens are spectacular, and they were able to have everything there in one place – ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.

Did the couple have any special requests for their wedding?

The couple: “Our wedding was absolutely perfect! Even during the middle of a pandemic, we could not have asked for anything better. While we had to make some changes, as well as delay the original wedding date, everything worked out perfectly. The food, the cocktails, the music, the Penzi team – everything was perfect. There was not a single detail that was overlooked, and all our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to. From the welcome party, the ceremony, the reception, and the Sunday brunch, we could not have asked for more. I wish we could get married every year to have a party like that again! The day of the death and Catrina (a female skeleton that is one of the strongest and most recognizable symbols of The Day of the Dead celebrations) were something that was very special for them and for all the guests”.

Were there any challenges for this wedding?

The wedding took place in November, in San Miguel at that time we could do weddings up to 75 guests, in open spaces – we made sure that all the protocols took place, that the staff wore masks. It was incredible to see the couple and their guest celebrating.
