All Amanda Gorman Does Is Win So She’s Performing At Super Bowl LV – Blavity News

Amanda Gorman’s winning streak is red hot, with the NFL announcing that the 22-year-old will be performing a poem at the Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7 in Tampa Bay, Florida, the NFL said in a statement.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league plans to honor a teacher, nurse, and veteran before the game for their work during the coronavirus pandemic. Educator Trimaine Davis, COVID ICU nurse manager Suzie Dorner and Marine Corps veteran James Martin will participate in the coin toss before the game.

The NFL is bringing in Gorman to write a poem about the three frontline workers and she will perform it in the stadium. As part of the announcement, the NFL shared a video of the three finding out they will be attending the game.

“We are honored to recognize these three individuals who represent the best in all of us,” Goodell said in a statement.

“During this incredibly challenging time in our lives, Trimaine, Suzie, and James have exemplified the essence of leadership, each in their own way. We are grateful for their commitment and proud to share their stories and recognize them during this special moment on Super Bowl Sunday,” he added.

The event will cap a whirlwind month for Gorman, who rocketed to national stardom when she performed her spellbinding poem, “The Hill We Climb” during the inauguration of President Joe Biden.

Gorman became the first National Youth Poet Laureate in 2017 and is the youngest poet to ever perform at an inauguration, an honor bestowed on some of the country’s greatest wordsmiths like Maya Angelou. Gorman graduated from Harvard University last year.

She’s also signed a deal with Penguin Random House for three new books, according to The New York Times.

Despite the raging pandemic and worsening situation in Florida, specifically, the stadium will have about 22,000 fans in attendance at the Super Bowl, including more than 7,000 healthcare workers, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Weeknd will be performing for the halftime show at the game, as well.

Halftime show executive producer Jesse Collins told
Good Morning America that the show will try to put on a performance that differs from most years.

“We’re gonna use the stadium to present the show in a way that it’s never been presented before,” Collins said. “But it is absolutely a live, live show inside that halftime stadium in more places than you would expect.”
