On her debut on CNN’s morning segment, anchor Brianna Keilar tore into Fox News for its use of partisan chyrons to push far-right narratives against President Joe Biden.
“The chyrons, those headlines you see at the bottom of your screen? They are getting noticeably more creative,” said Keilar. “Fox uses them to push their conspiracy theories that Biden is essentially senile … other Fox banners imply that Biden basically belongs in a home, and one of their main experts literally called in from his retirement home in Florida. Another is this guy, the infamous Fox doc they have on to give a quote ‘virtual medical examination’ then reaching the evidence-free conclusion Biden is off his rocker, pushes the theory he is the puppet of a deep state.”
“Fox reliably provides the public disservice of pandemic disinformation, and sometimes it uses pictures,” continued Keilar, showing a number of other Fox chyrons and graphics. “Top health officials shown in straight jackets … one year into the pandemic, despite undeniable evidence that masks work, Fox’s chief science officer, Mr. Karlsson suggests they’re a national security risk with the new headline. When the new president marked one year of grief and loss, fox got impatient, saying how dare the president not wrap up before the power hour cockamamie commentary.”
“Sometimes they think they are lashing out, but actually they are inadvertently telling the truth about themselves, admitting the damage they wreak and the propaganda they peddle, like they’re writing the autobiography of their network in thirty characters or fewer, give or take,” concluded Keilar. “That Fox is not news, no matter what it calls itself.”

With the defense having rested in former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s murder trial, Rep. Maxine Waters of California was asked how “justice for George Floyd” activists will response if Chauvin is found not guilty. And the congresswoman called for a vocal response if that happens, saying, “We’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to let them know that we mean business.” Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas was among the far-right Republicans who claimed that Waters was advocating violence — and CNN’s John Berman called Cruz out and reminded viewers of the ways in which the Texas senator’s false claims of widespread voter fraud encouraged the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol Building.
On CNN’s “New Day,” host Berman explained, “She didn’t say what type of confrontation. Still, this is not the language that business owners in Minneapolis want to hear or that people calling for calm, including the president or the family of George Floyd (want to hear).”
But he went on to explain why Cruz is the last person who should be accusing a congresswoman of overly incendiary rhetoric.
Berman told viewers, “House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called it incitement of violence and said he will take action if Speaker Nancy Pelosi does not. But this is how Ted Cruz chose to respond in a tweet: ‘Democrats actively encouraging riots and violence, they want to tear us apart.’ That’s Ted Cruz of the not accepting the election results before or after the insurrection Cruzes, which might lead one to wonder if this a case of the pot calling the kettle violent.”
The “New Day” host went on to show a clip of former President Donald Trump giving his “Stop the Steal” speech on January 6 hours before a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol Building as well as clips of Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani using inflammatory rhetoric while promoting bogus election fraud claims. Giuliani said, “Let’s have trial by combat” — and Berman pointed out that Cruz had no problem with that rhetoric.
“So, I don’t recall the Republicans-encouraging-violence tweet from Ted Cruz after that,” Berman told viewers before airing an inflammatory “Stop the Steal” speech from Cruz.
Berman said, “It’s not like this guy is some peaceful prophet of gentility. This is the man who wants to do unspeakable things to books that say mean things about him, asking his supporters to vote on whether we machine-gun John Boehner’s book, take a chainsaw to it or burn the book and light cigars. Where does that rank on the they-are-tearing-us-apart meter?”

Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Trump campaign official, has agreed to work for former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens’ (R) Senate campaign.
The Greitens campaign made the announcement on Monday morning that Guilfoyle was joining as the national chairperson.
“Kimberly Guilfoyle is a former prosecutor and Fox News host who most recently served President Donald J. Trump as the National Chair of Trump Victory Finance Committee — the organization responsible for raising hundreds of millions of dollars in support of the President and his America First agenda,” a statement from the campaign said.
In the statement, Guilfoyle said that she was “proud to join this team as the National Chair and look forward to championing Governor Greitens’ vision throughout Missouri and around the country.”
Both Greitens and Guilfoyle have faced sexual allegations during their career.
In 2016, Greitens was caught up in a scandal after he was accused of photographing a woman while she was nude and then using the photos to force her silence about the affair. The woman, who was not his wife, later testified that the affair was not always consensual. She said that Greitens had once coerced her into performing oral sex on him before she was allowed to leave.
Prosecutors dropped the charges against Greitens in 2018 due to a lack of evidence.
Guilfoyle faced a lawsuit in 2020 after being accused of sexually harassing at least one employee while she worked at Fox News in 2018. Fox News eventually paid $4 million to keep the case out of court.
According to a report from CNN, Donald Trump’s focus on unseating Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) has the Republican leadership throwing up their hands in exasperation as they look toward the 2022 elections.
While multiple GOP lawmakers voted against the ex-president during his second impeachment trial, Trump has been laser-focused on the one female senator who broke ranks and said he should have been removed from office.
Since that time, Kelly Tshibaka, a former Alaska Department of Administration commissioner, has jumped into the race with help from former Trump advisers while Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has offered his full support for the incumbent which is setting up what could turn into an ugly intra-party battle at a time when the GOP is trying to win back the Senate.
According to the CNN report, Republicans are being put in an “awkward position as they remain divided about the former President’s role in the party, and try to unify ahead of the 2022 midterms with control of Congress at stake.”
“Republican leaders in Washington say they are steadfastly behind Murkowski, with McConnell’s big-spending super PAC, the Senate Leadership Fund, as well as the NRSC, backing the long-time incumbent.
But McConnell has been in a cold war with Trump after blaming the President for causing the insurrection,” the report notes, adding that Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) gave Trump a leadership award after he called McConnell a “dumb son of a b*tch” in a speech before GOP donors.
For his part, Scott “defended the award, noting it was for Trump’s policies, but also said he disagrees with his attacks on McConnell and backs Murkowski — all the while arguing the party needs to unify to win back the Senate.”
Additionally, Scott, who heads the NRSC, is now disavowing an unsigned statement from the organization that endorsed Murkowski before Easter by blaming it on his staff, saying, “They would have decided without me.”
High-profile Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) threw up his hands when asked about Trump’s attacks on Murkowski, telling reporters, “Yeah I’ve talked to him, but that’s a relationship that’s probably beyond repair. My hope is that we will focus on out-of-control Democrats. But we are where we are.”
