Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is now expected to stay at Old Trafford this month after impressing manager Erik ten Hag.

The Old Trafford club have shelved interest in Wolves right-back Nelson Semedo as a result of Wan-Bissaka’s re-emergence.

Former Crystal Palace full-back Wan-Bissaka was set to leave United this month, though sources have indicated the club were not actively looking to part with him.

The defender, it is understood, would have been open to leaving the club, too.

However, he has played a key role since the World Cup and it is now likely that he remains with United.

He has made five appearances for United since the end of Qatar 2022, four of those starts.

It remains to be seen how often he plays once first-choice right-back Diogo Dalot is fully fit.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag now believes he has a genuine alternative to Dalot, who sustained an injury against Charlton on Tuesday, in Wan-Bissaka and is looking to keep the 25-year-old.

Prior to December, Wan-Bissaka had made just one appearance for United all season – a four minute cameo against Liverpool in August.

Crystal Palace have shown an interest in re-signing the player they sold for £50million in 2019, but they are now preparing to look elsewhere.

There is time for matters to change between now and the end of the transfer window, and it remains to be seen whether Wan-Bissaka will push for an exit if he is totally sidelined again but as things stand he is set to to stay put.

Sportsmail understands that United were showing an interest Wolves’ defender Semedo in the event of Wan-Bissaka leaving.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of season, though Wolves have the option of extending his contract.

Wolves may be open to selling the full-back this month and United were monitoring his situation.

However, that has been put on the back-burner given the club’s current stance on Wan-Bissaka.
