An SBS bus captain has been recognised on social media for his act of kindness toward a tissue paper seller.
The act of kindness was witnessed by one Ibrahim FJ, who took to Facebook to share what he had witnessed.
Bus stopped for longer than usual
According to his Facebook post on Aug. 3, Ibrahim FJ was riding bus 154 to Paya Lebar MRT station when the bus stopped for a longer period than usual at a bus stop near Joo Chiat Complex.
Ibrahim said that he was curious why the bus did not continue on its route after two passengers had boarded the bus.
He said that he then saw the bus captain open his door, which Ibrahim thought was just part of the bus captain’s duties of laying out the door ramp.
Instead, he soon realised that there was an elderly uncle seated on the ground in the dark shadows, with the tissue paper packets that he was selling lying on the floor next to him.
Bus captain’s actions warmed hearts of passengers
Ibrahim shared that the bus captain then “rushed down” the stairs, and reached into his pocket and handed something to the tissue seller.
“Everything happened too quickly. What we, the passengers on the bus saw next was a smiling uncle.”
The bus captain reportedly then quickly returned to his driver’s seat, released the brake, and continued on the bus route toward the next stop.
Ibrahim said that he was both “captivated” and “shocked” at what had just happened, adding:
“Just can’t believe what I just saw. […] Sharing this beautiful incident of what I’ve just witnessed to spread kindness, love and positivity. Let us be the change we want to see.”
He added that while he didn’t manage to get the bus captain’s name, he took a picture of him, as well as the bus’ licence plate.
Other netizens applaud bus captain
Ibrahim’s post has been shared nearly 700 times, at the time of writing.
Many people applauded the bus captain for his good deed.
Some also called him a role model, and encouraged others to follow in his footsteps.
One commenter even called for SBS to give him an award for his actions.
